(Salt Lake). Your (Otto) great grandfather (John) was drowned in the Barren
river when your Grand Father (James) was 9 years old. Your Great Grand Mother
married again a man by the name of Wilson. She was about 80 years old when she

NAME-CONFLICT: IGI has his name as Henry M. Socwell; Married 8 Mar 1815 in
Cumberland Co. New Jersey.

LETTER: Letter written 5 Jun 1913, from Wm A. Toomey (Neodesha, Kansas) to Mr
Otto N. Toomey; (Dear Nephew); Mother (Eleanor C. Sockwell) and I (Wm A Toomey)
went to Veary Ind. on a visit just before the Civil war broke out. I was a
little boy. Their name was Sockwell. He (Henery) was a Methodist Preacher. He
died several years before Grand Mother did.

82. John Duncan Dewsnup Sr.

HISTORY: Given to Marcia Rose Warner Toomey by her parents.
John Dewsnup, son of Joseph & Ann (Duncan) Dewsnup, was born 21 July 1814 in Manchester, England. He emigrated from Manchester in 1863. He was baptized 19 Apr 1850 in Manchester, England, by J. Yates of Manchester Branch of the British Mission at the age of 36. Res. 7 Loom St. or Prussia St. He died in Deseret, Millard, Utah, 23 Jan 1883. He was member of Police Force for upward of 20 years. He held the office of High Priest and tried to live and honor his calling. He died in full faith of the Gospel of Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He filled a mission to England--was set apart 26 Oct 1874 by Orson Pratt. He was buried 26 Jan 1883, Deseret, Millard, Utah.

!HISTORY: Given to Marcia Rose Warner Toomey by her parents.
Jemima Topham Dewsnup, wife of John Dewsnup, was baptized 30 June 1849 in Manchester, England, by J. Scoot of Manchester Branch of British Mission, 7 Loom St. Manchester. Buried 28 Feb 1884, Deseret, Utah. She died in Fillmore, Utah, 26 Feb 1884. She was a faithful member of the L.D.S. church, having passed through many privations for the sake of the Gospel and never wavered from her honest convictions to the truth to her last moments of life. She died in full faith of a glorious resurrection. She leaves a number of children and grandchildren to mourn her loss. Her son Joseph did not come to this country. He was a minister of the Josephite Church in England.

EMIGRATION: Internet site of Neil Wagstaff (of Provo, Utah) www.xmission.com/~famties - 1864, Liverpool. Lancashire, England. Jemima and her four children (Ann, Phoebe, John & Hiram) set sail 28 Apr 1864 on the Monarch of the Sea and arrived in New York on 3 Jun 1864. On the p[assenger list their last name was spelt "Dawsnup".
