10240. Daniel Warner

BIRTH: Born 1618 - Warner Manor - New England Register, XX, 64-68. Available at New England Historical & Genealogical Society, Boston.

HISTORY: Daniel Warner, (known as Daniel Sr.) may also havae entered the new country as a married man. It has been suggested that he was married to a girl named Elizabeth Denne prior to the date they embarked on a harrowing trip across the Atlantic Ocean. I think it highly unlikrly in view of his birth date (1618) and the date of arrival of the family at Ipswich, Massachusetts (1633-35). Warner Manor, page 14.

MARRIAGE: Eight months following Elizabeth Denne's death, Daniel married Faith Lord Brown (Widow of Edward Brown of Ipswich) on July 1, 1660. Warner Manor, page 14.

MARRIAGE: After the death of Faith, Daniel remained single for six or seven years and then, at the age of 68, married a widow named Ellen Pell Jewett. Ellen survived Daniel. Warner Manor. page 14.

DEATH: Daniel died at Ipswich, Massachusetts on September 9, 1688. Warner Manor, page 14.

BIOGRAPHY: Daniel became a freeman 2 June 1641. He led an active life and was heavily involved in the community as a surveyor, constable, tax collector, selectman, juror and tithingman. He apparently had money, for he purchased his Aunt Sarah Baker Stone's house lot of 2 acres, her 6 acre planting lot and a 150 acre farm at Pine Swamp. In exchange, her agreed to build a home for Aunt Sarah, and to supply her with a servant. Warner Manor, page 14. Served on Grand Juries 1680; trial jury 1669, 1670, 1673, 1674, 1676. He was 1 of 45 men who signed a petition to the English King that the claim of Robert Mason to Gloucester he adjicated (Josephine S Warner Manuscript) Warner Manor page 19.

John Dane, Sahah's took an active role in sending many victims to death during the horrors of the witchcraft trials. He later signed abject apology and recantation for this mistaken act.
