Compaq
iPAQ Pocket PC
In April 2001, I replaced my handspring Visor Deluxe (now Treo Smartphone) with Compaq's iPAQ Pocket PC (now hp). After a few weeks of transferring and reorganizing my data, then finding replacement applications, I am happy as a lark. This page contains URLs to my favorite hardware and software sites that you may find useful if you own or plan to purchase an iPAQ Pocket PC.
Requirements that had to be satisfied before I transferred from a Palm Pilot to an iPAQ Pocket PC:
1) Color display readable in direct sunlight. (That eliminated the HP Jornada)
2) Better address book than the Palm's. (I.E. - Address fields for both home and business.)
3) Ability to beam to Palm Pilots as well as iPAQs. (Solved with Peacemaker Pro software)
4) A good travel alarm. (Solved with pTravelAlarm)
5) LDS Scriptures and Hymn Book (Solved with YanCEyWare's efforts)
6) Full search capability for all PIM data, like the Palm. (Covered by MS Outlook 2000 and WinCE 3.0)
7) Storage for books. (Solved with an IBM 340MB Microdrive and a CF expansion sleeve)
8) Availability. (Purchased mine from eBay 3 weeks used, w/340MB HDD and leather case for $700)
9) Lots of free software. (See TUCOWS and Pocket PC Magazine)
10) ~$500 to purchase. (You are on your own, buddy)
